Interview with John Resig: Creator of jQuery Javascript Library
February 2nd, 2009Since we started the blog we haven’t stopped publishing tutorials mainly focused in web usability, interfaces and javascript. Specifically, we have been using in most cases the javascript jQuery library.
Today we are honored to interview one of the most responsible for integrating javascript much easier, more powerful and faster on our Web applications, today we are interviewing John Resig, creator of jQuery.
Let’s dive into the interview guys
Hi and thanks for your time John, could you please give a brief introduction about yourself to the readers of yensdesign.com?
Sure, I’m the creator of the jQuery JavaScript Library and currently work for the Mozilla Corporation as a JavaScript Evangelist. The vast majority of my time is spent working on and with JavaScript.
Now go to the interesting part … Which is your favorite food?
It’s hard to say - I definitely have a lot of different favorite foods. I think, currently, I enjoy the Thai dish Pad Kra Pow the most.
Music style?
It fluctuates but it’s generally electronic, or indie rock. I’ve also been known to enjoy some good Depeche Mode.
Favourite colour?
Blue!
Let’s begin with the freak part… What’s your favourite project in which you have worked?
That’s hard to say - I’ve had a number of projects that I’ve really enjoyed. I think I’d have to say the Processing.js library that I released early last year was a lot of fun to put together.
What browser and operating system are you using?
Firefox and OS X (on a Macbook).
Why jQuery?
I wanted a tool that I could use to work around annoying browser bugs while providing a simple API for doing DOM-related tasks. That ended up becoming jQuery. Even today I still use jQuery for the same reasons and find it to be most effective.
Are you still participating in jQuery?
Absolutely. I spend a couple hours every day, replying to emails, managing tickets, fixing bugs - all the tasks that go in to maintaining the project.
What project are you currently working?
I’m in a little bit of a lull right now, in between projects (just finished up releasing jQuery 1.3). I want to do some work, next, on improving the ability of developers to test JavaScript on multiple platforms.
Do you think Web 2.0 has given everything it has to give?
It’s hard to say. I think developers are still doing some solid exploration, but I don’t think it’s completely finished yet. So little work has been done with the HTML 5 Canvas element - and that remains a huge source of incredible power for developers.
Thank you so much one more time John and simply ask you: Want to add something more to readers of yensdesign?
Thanks so much for taking the time to pull together these questions - and to all your readers, learn JavaScript, there’s a beautiful in there that’s a lot of fun to use.
And that’s all guys. Thank you so much one more time John and keep rocking with jQuery!
